Urbanized Bats?

So we did Austin and I mean we did it.   Sixth St. ‘til 3AM, Stubbs, live music, Rudy’s, Round Rock, rooftop drinks downtown, BBQ, sushi and other great stuffings, watched a UT game with the locals, checked out Lake Austin and Lake Travis…..we did it all.

But I must say the coolest for me was the bats.  Yes, the bats.  This was the second time I visited the Congress St. Bridge to check out the largest urbanized bat colony in the world.  It is a pretty amazing experience and I really wanted Jessica to take it in.  There are 1.5 million of the little suckers inhabiting the 1” expansion joints under the bridge and just around sunset they hit the skies.

It’s truly an amazing site.  Check it out…  (Note:  Note my video, the Droid deleted mine.)

Austin

Yeah that’s right…live music capital of the world.  Austin, Texas.  Have you been there?  If so, you know what I’m talking about.  There are so many amazing live music venues in that city.  And everyone loves Sixth Street.

Well, we are headed there this week for Jessica’s first time.  So, tune in next week for the adventurous recap.

Side Note:

We knew we would be out of town so we installed a security system.  Some of the features are pictured below.

A Little ‘Fro Fo Y’all

Hey Y’all, JJ Grey and Mofro are coming to town.  If you haven’t heard of these guys you definitely need to check them out.  They have a great sound and happen to be one of my favorites.  Here is a little documentary about JJ featuring some of their new music.

So we will see y’all at The Compound Grill on September 22.  A great band at a sweet brand new venue!

Golabki?

My last name is Jablonski…of course I’m Polish.  With that comes the love of Polish foods.  Pierogis, Bigos, Halushki just to name a few.  Love ‘em all.  So while my mom was in town we decided to bust out our favorite

Golabki (Stuffed Cabbage)

Ground meat, egg, rice, onion…..mixed and rolled in some cabbage, then tossed in a slow cooker with some tomato sauce.  8 hours later…DELICIOUS

Anyway, here’s our handy work.  We busted out 73 of them.

Every Little Thing Is Gonna Be Alright

It can be tough out there; whether it is your job, the economy, or whatever.  But remember, its all cyclical.  For every valley, there is a peak.

So have faith that it is going to get better, because in the immortal words of Bob Marley, “Every little thing’s gonna be alright….”

The Boss 1930 – 2010

I am definitely not a Yankees fan.  But I do appreciate George Steinbrenner, aka The Boss, for a few reasons.

I appreciate his vision in business.  He had the vision to revitalize his dad’s struggling shipping company by redirecting it’s focus (from ore to grain).  He had the vision to buy a lowly baseball team from CBS for 8.8 million and then turn it into an empire that is now worth 1.5 BILLION!

I appreciate his generosity.  He donated large amounts of money to the Tampa area for museums and parks.  He donated 1 million dollars to the memorial fund that was set up after the Virginia Tech Shootings.   And being from Ohio, he funded the Ohio State Marching Band for years…just to name a few.

And

Lastly, I appreciate his sense of humor.   Prime example of this, Seinfeld.  To be mocked on National TV and to take it in stride.  That shows you are confident and have a great sense of humor.

So, here’s to you George.

Tiger Sharks

Jessica and I went back to Pittsburgh a few weeks ago.  We had a blast and did a ton of things, one of which was the Pittsburgh Zoo.

I haven’t been back there in years…..they have done an amazing job.   Take a look at these tiger sharks…..WOW THE TEETH.

Not sure I would enjoy diving with these guys.

Fire Pits in Summer?

If you are in the valley, you know its hot.  So why is it we feel its necessary to add to it?

Are outdoor fire pits really necessary right now?

NO!

Impending Doom at PNC park

Just another clip from our trip back in Pittsburgh.  There was a break in the clouds so we decided to check out PNC Park.   It didn’t take long for the skies to change on us….thus the title, Impending Doom!
